About Me



Born in Riga, Latvia, and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Simona Blat is a writer, editor, educator, and bookseller.

She is the author of two chapbooks of poetry: Funeral (Pixel Press, 2018) and Élan Vital (Beautiful Days Press, 2024).

She has worked as an editor for over ten years, in both book and magazine publishing, most currently as poetry and criticism column editor at Epiphany Magazine. She is also the founding editor and creative director of The Brazenhead Review

She has taught writing at The New School and Columbia University, and currently teaches at New York University. 

She is the owner of Black Spring Books, an independent used bookstore and literary meeting place in Williamsburg, Brooklyn where she lives, above the shop, with her cat Pushkin.
